The thermopile, the central rod in the image, responds to heat by creating a small electrical current that is interpreted by the gas regulator and determines when gas is entering the burner. "
Step 1: Disconnect the thermocouple from the gas valve.
Step 2: Using a multimeter capable of measuring resistance (or continuity), attach one lead (alligator clip) to the pilot tube. Insert the other lead (probe) fully into the magnet hole, making sure the probe
only makes contact at the top center of the magnet hole. Do not allow the probe to contact the threaded sides of the hole.
Step 3: If continuity is shown, the ECO is good. If continuity japan telegram data is not shown, the ECO has opened and the gas valve must be replaced"
Honeywell Energy Shut Off (ECO) Test
"The Honeywell gas regulator is designed with an ECO device that resets.
To reset the gas control after an error code (4), turn the gas control knob to the OFF position and wait at least (5) minutes. Follow the instructions on the light before relighting. instruction label or light instructions located in the installation and operating instructions" With mechanical gas valve thermostats, the pilot flame heats the end of a thermocouple. A thermocouple is two dissimilar metals joined together that produce a small current when heated. A small electrical current passes from the thermocouple through a hollow tube with a wire inside. The thermocouple tube screws into the bottom of the control valve where it connects to an electromagnet.
If the pilot light is lit and the thermocouple is seated in the pilot flame and the thermocouple is operating and making an electrical connection to the gas control, the electromagnet is energized. The electromagnet holds the relief valve open until the pilot flame heats the thermocouple.
If the pilot light is not lit, the electromagnet closes the relief valve and no gas can enter the gas control. When the pilot is relit, the magnet makes an audible sound that can be detected during troubleshooting.
