Majority calls for digital citizen participation

In addition, citizens also have concrete ideas about what life in a digital city could look like and would like to be more actively involved. Nine out of ten respondents (90 percent) want to be more involved in local decisions. The possibility of being able to point out problems in public spaces via a defect reporting system is particularly popular (73 percent).

Two thirds would also like to be able to suggest concrete improvements to improve the quality of life in their place of residence online (67 percent). Four out of ten (40 percent) would cast their vote in elections online. And almost one in five (19 percent) would participate in online petitions. Municipalities should offer digital services across the board that facilitate civic participation and engagement."



Smart Country Convention showcases digital solutions for the public sector
The digitalization of cities, communities and regions is the central theme of the Smart Country Convention, which will take place from 22 to 24 October 2019 in Berlin and brings together all relevant representatives from administrations, politics, the digital economy, associations and science.

The three-day event is a combination of congress, workshops, training events and an exhibition. It focuses on digital administration as well as the digitalization of public services in the areas of energy, mobility, security, waste, water, education, health and housing.
