Whether they click away from the landing at&t email list page and onto the rest of your site or hit the back button depends on how well the page is designed and how easy it is to find the call to action .

Cluttered designs and unclear calls to action are a recipe for high bounce rates. The best way to get people to stay on your site and convert is to remove distractions.

Take a look at Netflix's no-clutter homepage, which includes a clear call to action that helps readers understand what to do.

Their homepage serves as a landing page . It is designed to redirect people to the rest of the site by signing up for a free trial.

There's a button to sign up for a free trial and a reassurance that you can cancel your subscription at any time. There's nothing to distract visitors.

3. Autoplay video and audio
In 2013, Facebook began pushing autoplay video in feeds, and other sites followed suit. Sure, video views skyrocketed, but so did user frustration .

By 2017, publications like DigiDay were declaring the death of autoplay as a huge percentage of respondents viewed it negatively.

Autoplaying videos or audio does not contribute to a good user experience. It forces your visitors to look for the mute button or, even worse, the X button in their browser. This definitely does not bode well for your bounce rate.

4. Links to external pages
The more links you have to external pages, the more your visitors will click on them. Essentially, you are increasing your bounce rate by redirecting your target audience to another site.

This doesn't mean you shouldn't have any external links. They're important for establishing the authority and trustworthiness of a major city, of Google's EAT Test .

Minimize external links, remove unnecessary ones from pages, and place them below the fold to keep visitors on your site longer. These steps can potentially improve conversions. Alternatively, consider opening external links in a new tab or window.

5. Slow loading
According to research by Portent, 86% of e-commerce sites load in less than 5 seconds.

However, with waning patience and attention spans, this duration can still lead to high bounce rates. Most website visitors will leave your site if it takes too long to load.

The same study says that a website that takes a second to load gets 2.5 times the conversion rate of one that takes 5 seconds to load.

Remember: the longer your page takes to load, the more people you're losing. As you can see below, the conversion rate for slow-loading sites is significantly lower than for those that load quickly:
