We will explain how IP addresses are assigned, including "global IP addresses" and "private IP addresses".

How global IP addresses are assigned
How global IP addresses are assigned

IP addresses are managed worldwide by ICANN, a non-profit organization.

Below them are organizations called Regional loan officer email list Internet Registries (RIRs), which assign IP addresses to different regions of the world.

For example, there is ARIN, which manages IP addresses in North America, RIPENCC, which manages IP addresses in Europe, and APNIC, which manages IP addresses in our Asia-Pacific region.

Furthermore, under "APNIC" there is an organization called "JPNIC" that manages Japan's IP addresses.

IP addresses are assigned in a hierarchical structure, with organizations under them being responsible for even smaller areas, and so on.

JPNIC further entrusts the management of IP addresses assigned to Japan to designated IP address management providers.

IP address management designated operators commissioned by JPNIC provide them to customers and ISPs (Internet Service Providers).

IP addresses are managed in this hierarchical structure, and when a user uses one to connect to the Internet, the provider automatically provides them with a global IP address.

How private IP addresses are assigned
When you connect a computer or other device to a router at work or at home, it is automatically assigned a private IP address.

This involves a server called a "DHCP server."

DHCP servers automatically issue necessary information, such as IP addresses, to devices that temporarily connect to IP networks such as the Internet.

Thanks to this DHCP server, private IP addresses that do not overlap with other devices connected to the network are automatically assigned without the need for human management.
