Faced with the “ Big Nine ” divided between the United States and China, Europe is struggling to establish itself in the Artificial Intelligence market. The only way to compete in a field largely occupied by GAFAs and BATX is to build the future of AI in collaboration. The first “ European AI Night” , organized this week in Paris, brought together among the 2,000 participants industry players, start-ups, researchers and politicians to design a European future for AI. It was also an opportunity to present the AI4EU initiative , a collaborative platform for European researchers and companies, combined with a community around Artificial Intelligence.

With a global marketgrowing by 70% compared to 2017, Artificial bolivia mobile database Intelligence has become a key sector for industries. Internet giants have long been fighting over AI start-ups (including European ones) with a record number of mergers and acquisitions in recent years. Governments are also investing massively in AI, with a US/China balance that has just been reversed this year. The Middle Kingdom is mobilizing more than 30 billion euros in AI, and has just overtaken the United States in terms of investments. Faced with this, France's 1.5 billion euros over 5 years seems ambitious, but not enough to build an independent and sovereign AI.

The mere increase in AI investment of 70% between 2018-2020 will not make Europe a serious competitor to the two poles. It is more about federating good ideas and skills , all against a common cultural background that differs from that of the US, with its ultra-liberal approach focused on the free market, and from China, with its “Next Generation Artificial Intelligence Development Plan” which, behind the promotion of national champions and the country's leadership on the international scene, mainly aims at total control of the activities and ideas of its population.
