The pilot started on August 15, 2023. 13 banks are participating in it: Alfa-Bank JSC, Bank Dom.rf JSC, Ingosstrakh Bank JSC, VTB Bank PJSC, Gazprombank JSC, Qiwi Bank JSC, Ak Bars Bank PJSC, MTS Bank PJSC, Promsvyazbank PJSC, Sovcombank PJSC, Bank Sinara PJSC, Rosbank PJSC, TKB Bank PJSC.

Among individuals, bank employees are participating in the pilot at the first stage. For example, in September 2023, representatives of Bank Sinara reported the first payment for a service in a digital ruble in a beauty salon in Yekaterinburg via the bank's application. The entrepreneur immediately received money in a digital ruble account at Delobank (a branch of Bank Sinara).
A representative of the press service of Promsvyazbank (PSB) spoke about the transaction between an individual and a legal entity and the overall results of the first month of the pilot: "We successfully conducted the first transaction in the country with the digital ruble between a legal entity and an individual. An entrepreneur - a client of PSB, working in the field of online education, opened an electronic wallet, created a QR code and transferred it to the buyer for subsequent payment for services. In general, since the beginning of the digital ruble piloting project, PSB employees (participants in the pilot group) have opened more than 40 digital wallets and successfully made several thousand transfers and several dozen payments by QR code using the digital ruble. Auto payments in digital rubles are also popular: when setting up an auto payment, the client sets the date, the amount of the transfer in digital rubles and their recipient in advance. At this stage of the piloting, all possible scenarios of the customer path for transactions with digital rubles are being worked out for both the population and businesses. The first results of the testing showed that all daily transactions in digital rubles are intuitive and can be completed in a matter of minutes."
A representative of the press service of MTS Bank outlined the main goals of the first stage of the pilot: "One of the goals of the pilot is to ensure that all developed technological solutions for working with digital accounts of individuals and legal entities on the digital ruble platform of the Bank of Russia, access to which is provided through MTS Bank, work reliably and conveniently. The second goal is that we want to understand what products using the digital ruble we could offer to clients in the future, based on the experience that we will gain during the pilot."
