A readership anchored in its time

Who are we writing for? This is the question that all journalists must ask themselves. Whether it is a brief article on a news site or a major paper investigation transposed onto the web version of a media outlet: these articles will reach different readers, at different times, and on different platforms.

The time when a reader would go buy her edition of Le Figaro every morning at the newsstand is over. Today, this same reader may be a big fan of the Figaro website, but she also checks out what her friends are posting on Facebook, she clicks on articles in Apple News, she surfs Google News. She will probably even read the Mediapart article that is a “trending topic” on Twitter.
