It was International Women’s Day , a day that brands usually interpret as a competition to see which one can launch the most sexist advertisement. The German company Miele took home the prize that year by publishing an image showing four white women sitting on a washing machine with a cake and confetti. The worst part was the copy: “Let all women remember to embrace what makes them unique.” A washing machine! We didn’t steal that trip to the fifties from you, Miele. After the waves of indignation that this advertisement brought, the Community must have realized that we are already in the twenty-first century.
3. Du Bois: the narcissistic typo?
When Trump appointed Betsy DeVos as the new brazil mobile database Secretary of the Department of Education, he was met with criticism for DeVos's alleged incompetence to fill the role. It didn't help that the same week the Department of Education posted a tweet honoring civil rights activist W.E.B. Du Bois and misspelled his last name. The typo sparked even more criticism from the opposition. Many mocked that the typo seemed to bring the official's last name closer to that of the official and called her a narcissist.
To make matters worse, when apologizing they made ANOTHER typo, writing “our deepest apologizes” instead of “our deepest apologies.” Someone please get that Community guy a spell checker.
4. Mr. Brown and infidelity
The worst nightmare for a Community member is to confuse his personal account with that of the brand he represents. And that is what happened to the Community member of Mr. Brown, a Colombian candy company. In July 2013, the account published a compromising tweet that in just a few hours reached thousands of re-tweets. It seems that the guys at Mr. Brown did not take it badly, since the tweet is still accessible on his account. The one who must not have been very happy about it is the Community member's girlfriend.
