Home office? No thanks: Employees prefer to work in the office rather than at home

62 percent of employees with home office permission prefer the office as a place of work
Majority expects increasing proportion of home office work – one in two calls for legal entitlement
Four out of ten permanent employees (41 percent) are allowed to work from home , but most politely decline: If employees are allowed to decide where they work, a clear majority choose the office. 62 percent of permanent employees with home office permission do not make use of it, while 38 percent prefer to work in their own four walls or mobile.

This is the result of a representative survey of 1,002 working people in Germany between the ages of 16 and 65 commissioned by the digital association Bitkom. "Many employees now have the choice of where they work. Contrary to what one might think, most permanent employees prefer the office to their own home - for very different reasons," says Bitkom President Achim Berg.



Most want social contact, some fear career setback
Those who are allowed to work from home but still prefer to go to the office cite cambodia gambling data social reasons in particular. 59 percent say it is important to them to work in a team. 56 percent say that direct personal interaction in the office is important to them. Work habits also play a role for many. 52 percent say that their way of working requires personal presence.

One in five (20 percent) say they cannot do their work from home and one in seven (15 percent) think they cannot work productively at home. Some also think about possible career opportunities when choosing where to work. 29 percent prefer to go to the office to be present in the company . And 11 percent say they are concerned that a lack of presence could have a negative impact on their superiors' assessment and could be disadvantageous in a salary negotiation, for example.

"Digital technologies make it possible to work regardless of time and place. But flexible working requires clear rules - trust is required on the part of the employer, and a high degree of self-discipline on the part of the employee," says Berg.



Majority expects increasing proportion of home offices
But despite all the reticence, the majority of all employed people are convinced that location-independent working will become more and more popular. 53 percent expect the proportion of employees who work fully or partially from home to increase in the next five years. 41 percent expect the proportion to remain constant. However, no one expects the trend towards home office to reverse and the proportion to decrease again.
