Bitkom supports German-French GAIA-X organization

The planned European cloud and data infrastructure GAIA-X is taking shape. German and French companies and organizations today present plans for a joint GAIA-X control organization and publish initial details of the technical architecture.



Bitkom President Achim Berg explains:
“The establishment of the GAIA-X organization is a milestone on the way to a European cloud and data infrastructure. We very much welcome the fact that Germany and France are taking the lead in establishing GAIA-X across Europe.

There is interest in the business world - now it's time to thailand gambling data gain momentum. GAIA-X must bring its first offerings to market as soon as possible. This requires a viable and open GAIA-X organization to manage the cloud ecosystem and achieve the ambitious goals.

Cloud and data infrastructures form the basis of the digital economy - also in Europe. GAIA-X can lay the foundation for the planned European data spaces, as envisaged by the EU data strategy. In this way, Europe is strengthening its data sovereignty in the long term."

According to a representative survey by Bitkom Research, 73 percent of companies in Germany used computing services from the cloud last year . For these companies, data protection was the top criterion when selecting a cloud service provider.

Almost all (90 percent) stated that they consider compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation to be essential for cloud solutions. For eight out of ten (79 percent), a transparent security architecture was essential. The question of location also concerned companies. For two thirds each, the headquarters of the cloud provider (67 percent) and the data center (66 percent) had to be located within the EU jurisdiction.
