At the annual RSA conference in San Francisco, analyst firm IDC outlined some predictions about the future of IT security.
While there was a lot of talk about machine learning and artificial intelligence at the RSA Conference, Sean Paik, vice president of IDC’s security products program, talked about what he sees as a much more important trend. In his view, the strongest and most important trend in security today is what he calls determinism.
According to Pike, determinism is not about whether or not an afghanistan whatsapp data has been breached, but about an organization’s ability to definitively verify the integrity of its IT assets. “Determinism means integrity,” he said. “I think integrity is going to be the most important factor for us in the next phase of digital transformation.”
In the context of data, integrity, Pike said, means that it remains unaltered and reliable. Deterministic integrity is the center around which information security should revolve. He noted that ensuring integrity is tantamount to ensuring the accuracy of information.
