Prime Minister approves proposal for four medical colleges: Health Minister

From the next (2018-19) academic year, 250 students will get admission in 5 new medical colleges. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already approved the proposal to start four of them. These four medical colleges will be in Naogaon, Netrokona, Magura and Nilphamari. In addition, the remaining one is under the approval process. This medical college will be established in Chandpur.

Health Minister Mohammad Nasim made this information known at a post-Eid greetings exchange and press conference with journalists at the ministry's meeting room at the Secretariat on Sunday.

The Health Minister said, as per the election promise of the Awami League government, four new medical colleges are being built in different districts. Infrastructure development work has country email list already started. Students will be admitted to these medical colleges in the 2018-19 academic year.
Mohammad Nasim said, as per the promise of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina government, one government medical college will be built in every district across the country to bring medical services to the doorsteps of the people in Bangladesh. We have built new medical colleges with that aim.

Stating that 7,000 doctors will be appointed at the upazila level through the special BCS by next November, he said, "It has been decided to appoint doctors through the special BCS to alleviate the crisis in the country's medical services. All those who pass by next November will be appointed at various upazila levels in the country. From there, they will have to provide compulsory medical service for three years."

Mohammad Nasim said that a new 500-bed specialized hospital under Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University will be built in Shahbagh, Dhaka for the residents of the capital. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will lay the foundation stone of this medical facility on October 13. The hospital will be built with the financial assistance of the Korean government.

Referring to the Sheikh Hasina Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute being built in Chankharpul, Nasim said, "It will be inaugurated next October. It is the world's largest burn institute. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate it."

Regarding the development of healthcare, he said, "Bangladesh's medical services have improved a lot. Now people from abroad also come to Bangladesh for treatment. Many cancer patients come to Bangladesh for treatment."

State Minister for Health Zahed Malek, Secretary of the Health Education Division Sirajul Haque Khan, Secretary of the Health Services and Planning Division GM Saleh Uddin, Additional Secretary Kazi A.K.M. Muhiul Islam, Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services, Professor Dr. Abul Kalam Azad and others were present at the time.
